Every day across Australia, tonnes of perfectly good food is left unused, over-ordered for events, surplus from restaurants, or simply at risk of being wasted. Thankfully, organisations like OzHarvest step in to give this food a second life, redirecting it to people and communities who need it most. Their mission is simple yet powerful: Fight Food Waste. And they do it with remarkable efficiency and heart.
One shining example of their work was during the first test of the Ashes in Perth, where the masterstroke of Travis Head saw Australia win the test within two days. After the crowds cleared and the final ball was bowled, a significant amount of high-quality, untouched food remained. Instead of letting it go to waste, Optus Stadium partnered with OzHarvest to donate the surplus. Within hours, OzHarvest collected the food and redistributed it to local charities, schools, women’s refuges, and individuals in need, ensuring that what was once destined for landfill instead became meals for people facing food insecurity. It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes initiative that reminds us how impactful thoughtful collaboration can be.
At Pinnacle People, we are amazed by their efforts to achieve their goal of minimising the national food wastage by half by 2030, but we are also proud to be a part of their efforts. Over the years, we have collaborated with OzHarvest in helping where we can. By donating our chef and catering labour to OzHarvest, we strive to offer meaningful support and help champion their important work—reinforcing the message that every business has the power to make meaningful change. Together, our partnership shows what can happen when sustainability meets community spirit.
