{"id":15261,"date":"2018-03-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-29T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pinnacle-people.ap.applyflow.com\/fwc-decides-on-domestic-violence-leave-under-modern-awards\/"},"modified":"2018-03-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-29T00:00:00","slug":"fwc-decides-on-domestic-violence-leave-under-modern-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pinnaclepeople.com.au\/fwc-decides-on-domestic-violence-leave-under-modern-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"FWC Decides on Domestic Violence Leave Under Modern Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tThe Australian Fair Work Commission has ruled that all employees, including part-time and casual staff, will be entitled to five days of unpaid leave if they are affected by family or domestic violence,&nbsp;if they \u201cneed to do something to deal with the impact of family and domestic violence and it is impractical for them to do this outside of their ordinary hours of work\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn response to the decision, Small Business Minister Craig Laundy and Minister for Women Kelly O\u2019Dwyer said the Federal Government will introduce legislation into Parliament \u201cas soon as possible\u201d so that all Australian workers, not just those covered by modern award agreements, would be able to access the same leave entitlements.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis prompts HR professionals to consider a review and update of their policies and procedures. Domestic Violence Leave needs to be incorporated into the workplace as soon as it can, and communicated as to how this interacts with existing leave policies.
